4Family (part of Go4th)

Exciting New Developments at Go4th (held every 4th Sunday except August and December)

Go4th now comprises of 3 separate meetings all held at school

4Family (Messy Church style All Age) led by Rev Ian and Rev Jess and currently based around Bible superheroes.

4Chat (Adult discussion group in drama studio) led by Tim Gartside and Richard Abbott. This discussion group is superbly led and a wonderful opportunity for some adult mulling over of issues relating to faith in a modern world.  Fluency in 'Christian jargon' or certainty about what you believe absolutely not required!  All are welcome.

(If 2 parents usually come to 4Family you could consider taking turns to attend 4Chat and 4Family).

4Youth (New for secondary school aged pupils) - Youth Alpha Course with Krispy Kreme donuts led by Sam Wilson and Julia Dow.  This is held in the upstairs prayer room.  Please note primary aged children must stay in the hall and foyer area only and are not allowed upstairs on Go4th Sundays.

Sunday 23rd June

Sunday 27th May

This month's Go4th  explored Jesus ascending to heaven and how even though we can't see him now Jesus remains very close to us.

Sunday 28th April

This month's 4Family focused once again on Superheroes of the Bible. This time the spotlight was on Peter - a superhero who needed God's forgiveness after he denied three times that he knew Jesus.  We learned that God is always happy to forgive us when we ask him and expects us to forgive others too.  Crafts and games related to this theme included throwing beanbags into hoops, making paper chains and the ever popular biscuit decorating activity.

Sunday 24th March

Last Sunday’s 4Family was led by Rev Jess and told the dramatic story of Peter’s healing of a man who couldn’t walk.  We learned about the goodness of God and his unfailing love for each one of us. Applying icing sugar bandages and smartie buttons to gingerbread men was a particularly popular activity amongst the children.

Sunday 24th February

Rev Ian told the story of Jesus' disciple Peter and the huge catch of fish.  Peter learned to trust Jesus and became one of his closest followers.  The children enjoyed close examination of a plate of real fish and fish related games and activities.

Sunday 24th January

This week's Go4th was based around the Bible superhero David and told the story of how he killed Goliath with a single stone from a slingshot. We were reminded to trust in God as David did.  Gingerbread biscuit decorating and pompom firing activities were also popular!

Sunday 25th November - The Good Samaritan (waiting)

This month’s Go4th was based on the parable of the Good Samaritan and Rev Ian focussed his retelling of the story on waiting and the many things that we may be waiting for as well as the answers to prayers that we are hoping for.

Sunday 28th October - the parable of the mustard seed

This month’s Go4th service was based on the parable of the mustard seed.  As usual the children enjoyed taking part in a variety of activities and games including burying a chocolate button in a cake under a mound of icing and making an expanding mustard seed inscribed with the message ‘Where God’s in charge, small things grow large, and in God’s hand, small gifts expand’.

Sunday 23rd September (The Lost Sheep)

This month Go4th focused on the depth of God's love for us around the parable of The Lost Sheep .  Lost sheep (balloons) were rounded up by plastic hockey sticks much to the children's delight.  A brioche breakfast was enjoyed by all.

Sunday 22nd April 2018 - The Good Samaritan (kindness)

On Sunday our theme for the morning was 'kindness' based around an entertaining modern retelling of the Good Samaritan story involving audience participation.  Children made a bracelet to give to a friend as well as wooden 'kindness' tokens.  There was a lovely activity where children worked with a friend to paint one hand each 2 different colours and then rubbed their hands together to make a new colour.  Danish pastries were consumed and lots of fun had by all.

Uganda (and Pants) Sunday 4th February 2018

We had a fabulous Family service last Sunday.  It was wonderful to see so many of our school community learning about the goodness of God and enjoying crafts and activities incorporating pants, presents, chocolate and Uganda.  We prayed a prayer of blessing over Mrs Horner as she prepares to leave for Uganda for two weeks.  She will be working in Jinja with the Ugandaid team who sponsor vulnerable young people to learn a trade.  We have been collecting underwear for the students, many of whom arrive  at the Nile Training Institute with nothing.

Elijah and the Prophets of Baal - Sunday 9th November 2017

This was our 3rd Bowdon Sunday service henceforth to be known as Go4th.  The story for the morning was Elijah and the Prophets of Baal.  We built a bonfire together, doused it in 'water' and then waited for God to set it alight.  We learned that nothing is impossible for God.

We also took part in a variety of firework themed crafts including rockets, paintings and icing biscuits.  We learned a new song called Hopes and Dreams with signing and finished with a beautiful blessing song.
