Reception Spring Blog 2022

January 2022

At the start of this term children learned all about winter and cold weather.  They learned facts about Arctic animals and camouflage.  They listened to a variety of non-fiction as well as fiction texts about winter.

Our latest topic is 'food' and is proving very popular!  We have invited all the children to bring in different breads which have significance for their own family for us all to taste.  We will then find out where in the world each type originates using a world map.

We will be visiting the Science and Discovery Centre 'Imagine That!' in Liverpool soon and the children are all very excited about their first school trip.

The children are working hard in Read, Write, Inc phonics and their independent reading is coming on in leaps and bounds.  They are beginning to use their phonic skills to write simple sentences which is so exciting to see!

February

The children really enjoyed their trip to Imagine That and fully immersed themselves in all the exciting activities. They were a credit to Bowdon Church School.

Children really enjoyed a  whole day of number learning fun to support NSPCC.

March

Later in the month we celebrated World Book Day by getting involved with 'Take One Book' - a whole school focus on 'Sulwe' by Lupita Nyong'o.  At the end of the week children dressed up as word or an idiom which was lots of fun.

At Bowdon we regularly invite 'iSing Pop' who are a singing, performing, and resourcing Christian project that helps children and families engage in Collective Worship in school, church, and at home.  Children always really love this experience - learning lots of fabulous new songs and actions and performing in a concert at St Mary's Church, Bowdon.

April

Children learned all about the Easter story and the sacrifice of Jesus.  They made an Easter bonnet at home and paraded around the local streets accompanied by some of our parents.  They visited Lady of the Vale Nursing Home and waved to the local community.

On the last day of term we showed support for Ukraine and raised money with a yellow and blue own clothes day.
