In the penultimate week of term, both the girls' and boys' cricket teams qualified for the County Cricket Finals.
Last Wednesday, the Girls County Cricket Finals took place, bringing together the top qualifying teams from across Cheshire for a highly competitive day of cricket. Representing BCS, our girls faced a challenging group filled with strong and experienced opposition.
Despite the tough competition, the girls performed exceptionally well throughout the tournament. They showed determination, teamwork, and skill, losing only one match all day—and even that was an incredibly close contest. Their consistent efforts meant they finished joint top of their group, an impressive achievement in such a strong field.
Unfortunately, progression to the final came down to the total number of runs scored, and the girls narrowly missed out by just a few runs. It was a heartbreaking margin, but their performance spoke volumes about their ability and spirit.
Ms Parle expressed how proud she was of every single player. Many of the girls had very little cricketing experience compared to the other teams, yet they held their own and played with incredible heart and enthusiasm.
Above all, the girls had a fantastic day and represented BCS with pride, positivity, and sportsmanship. They were all fabulous ambassadors for the school and should be immensely proud of their efforts.
The Boys Cheshire County Cricket Finals took place following a short delay due to poor weather on the original date, Tuesday. Thankfully, the event was rescheduled for Thursday, and with kinder conditions, play was able to go ahead.
The boys were placed in a very tough group, and the structure of their tournament differed slightly from the girls' competition. They began the day with an excellent opening win against a particularly strong team, setting the tone for what would be an outstanding run of form.
Building on their early momentum, the boys dominated the group stage, winning all of their matches with confidence and control. This secured them a well-earned place in the semi-finals, where they continued their impressive performance with another comfortable win over a competitive opponent.
In the final, the boys faced Tarvin—a school renowned for its cricketing strength and boasting several county-level players. It proved to be a thrilling, high-quality match played at a very high standard. The game ended in a tie, but Bowdon Church School were declared the winners based on the number of wickets taken—a victory that was both dramatic and thoroughly deserved.
Following their final win, BCS advanced to the prestigious ‘Super Final’. The boys once again rose to the occasion, delivering a dominant performance and securing victory by over 50 runs!
Throughout the day, the boys were a credit to themselves and to Bowdon Church School. Their sportsmanship, teamwork, and positive spirit did not go unnoticed—other teams and staff even commented on how polite and well-mannered our children were, always taking time to shake hands and show respect after every match. Ms Parle and Mrs Asgari were very proud of the team.
It was a truly special day, and the boys returned home proud and well-deserving County Cricket Champions.
