  • VE Day Celebrations

There were lots of activities throughout school to celebrate this historic anniversary.

In Y6 we thought about how we would have felt when the end of the war in Europe was announced. The children were incredibly empathetic and understood that as well as happiness, relief and excitement, children in 1945 may also have felt angry, upset and anxious.

In Year 4, we heard stories from Mr Booth’s mum about how she celebrated V.E day and heard real life accounts of daily life during World War 2. We also listened to music that would have been played at the time.

In Year 5 the children have enjoyed watching and listening about different people’s experiences of VE day. Sam even brought in his great grandad’s war medals from when he served in World War 2.

KS2 were treated to the Orchestra playing Gustav Holst’s Jupiter (from the Planets suite), including the theme for the hymn ‘I Vow to Thee my Country’, in celebration of VE Day.
