    Democracy Vision Group

We were established in 2022, and every 2 years we are voted by our peers, based upon the following criteria:

    • We are happy to speak in public to a range of audiences
    • We are fair and listen to the views of all
    • We are interested in how democracy works
    • We are solution-focussed and collaborative

We seek to be role models within the school community through modelling honesty and integrity.

We are a team of 12, including a representative from each class in years 3-6.

This year most of our work is linked to the Rights Respecting School Awards (RRSA), where we are currently Bronze: Rights Aware, and are working towards Silver: Rights Committed.

We are leading on this important aspect of school development, and will be speaking to governors, parents and children as well as leading assemblies and writing about RRSA in our school newsletter and on this website.

We have also been involved in developing a Play Charter, which is displayed in all classrooms and which we presented to all the children in a special assembly.

    Last year our projects were:

    • Collating views of our classmates regarding school food and food service and feeding these back to the adults who look after food service at BCS
    • Considering our school houses and half termly house rewards
    • Presenting in assembly, to introduce ourselves and describe our role as the voice of the children

Further to our role within school, we also welcome visitors and have undertaken visits with a Democracy theme.

    • In April 2024, our Year 6 members visited Number 10 Downing Street for a special 'Lesson at 10' for Earth Day.
    • We visited Trafford Town Hall and met the mayor.
    • We have interviewed our old MP - Sir Graham Brady - and the candidate who hoped to be his successor.
    • We will be visiting the Houses of Parliament in March 2025.

We have our own Google Classroom for sharing ideas and discussing issues, and we meet formally at least every 2 weeks.

We all have Vision journals, where we note down issues raised by the children in our classes, which we bring to meetings to discuss.
