  • Rights Respecting School Award

In December 2024, we were awarded Bronze level in our journey towards being a UNICEF-accredited Rights Respecting School. We are working towards the Silver award, which we hope to achieve late Summer/early Autumn 2025.

A rights-respecting school is one where children's rights are taught, learnt, practised, respected, protected and promoted. Our children are rights-holders and we, as adults, are duty bearers.

We currently have a team of over 30 children across KS2 who are actively involved in teaching our school community about rights, by: selecting the rights they feel are most crucial in our context; delivering assemblies; visiting and presenting to classes; writing articles for the school newsletter; making videos about specific rights; monitoring our 'Listening Boxes' to ensure our children feel heard, and generally being Rights Pioneers at BCS, ensuring that ALL children know that they have a voice and that ALL voices are equally valued.
