Bowdon Enterprise Challenge

BCS was short-listed for the TES Enterprise and Community Award in 2014 for Enterprise Challenge.

Enterprise Challenge began in Bowdon Church School in 2012 and is one of the highlights of the children’s time here in BCS.  Over a 5 week period, the children in Year 6 take part in a series of workshops on core business and life skills, pitch ideas to local business angels for real money, produce and fulfil orders, culminating in a business fair for family, friends and the local community.  Not only does this bring their learning in primary school to life, giving every aspect of the curriculum real context, but it also instils important skills such as confidence, resilience, creativity and teamwork, whilst preparing them for the transition to secondary school.

Parents are invited to come into school to give talks on different aspects of business and give Y6 an insight into possible future careers as well as give sage advice on how to develop their teamwork and final products. Each team choose a charity to support, making their fundraising endeavours more focused and personal. One of the added benefits to the challenge is the amount of money raised each year. Between 2014 - 2019 Enterprise Challenge has raised an outstanding £21,469! Life skills in action!

Each team designs their own stall to promote their charity and product

At the end of the challenge, the children are rewarded for their effort throughout the project, with awards such as: most profit, best teamwork, most engaging marketing material, highest volume of sales, best community engagement etc.  There are often individuals who discover new talents and it is amazing to see many gain confidence in their own abilities over the duration of the project.

If you can assist with the provision of prizes, we are always eager to give the children new and exciting experiences.  Please get in touch and let us know how you can help…
