What is the parent forum?
The parent forum is a partnership between parents and the school. It is a valuable way to share ideas and views, to carry out consultations and make suggestions for school improvement.
The aims of the parent forum will be to:
- Work together on school improvement objectives and to continue to improve the education provided for our children
- Share information, knowledge and skills
- Meet in a mutually supportive environment
- Further improve communications between parents and staff/governors.
The parent forum does not have any statutory responsibilities, duties or powers in the school.
Who can be part of the parent forum?
As we are such a large school, each class will nominate a representative and a substitute to attend meetings. Information from the meetings will be circulated to all parents. Other parent groups may be formed through the year e.g. one for the parents of children with additional needs. All parents will be invited to 'Meet the Teacher' evenings at the start of the year, where there will be an opportunity to ask questions about the year ahead.
Why should I be part of the parent forum?
It gives parents the opportunity to feed into the School Improvement Plan, to give an opinion on initiatives that are working well and to suggest ideas for further improvement. It also enables parents to be represented during consultations, formal and informal.
How often will the parent forum meet?
Every term for about an hour. These meetings may be in person or online.
What will be discussed at the meetings?
Relevant items relating to school improvement. The meetings will be informal, providing opportunities for open discussion. Information from the meetings will be distributed to all parents.
This is not the forum to raise or discuss concerns or complaints involving individual children, families or members of staff.
How can I raise an issue?
Submit your question or item for discussion to your class representative. Class representatives will forward these to the head@bowdoncs.org email address in advance of the meeting. If there is not time to fully discuss a particular item in the next meeting or more information is required, it will be deferred to another meeting.
