There's always something happening at Bowdon Church School

  • Y6 Big Club Worship assembly

    Thu 18 Oct 2018

We had a wonderful start to our day today.  This half term’s Y6 Big Club team had planned a worship assembly for us based on the Bible story of Jesus’ friend Lazarus who died and was brought back to life.  We loved watching ‘Lazarus’ being wrapped up and then come back to life after Jesus’ prayers. We heard some beautiful prayers which the children had written and then we left the hall through a ‘prayer tunnel’ where we were all prayed for.  Thank you so much Y6 Big Club!

  • Our School Pond update

    Thu 11 Oct 2018
The school pond, which we have been able to trace back as far as 1876 using historic OS maps, has been a central part of the school’s nature studies since 1969. Many children have enjoyed pond dipping activities as part of their science curriculum and back in 1995 the PTA built dipping platforms and cleared the area to allow for easier access. Over the years it has become an important habitat for a range of wildlife but unfortunately, over the last 12 months the pond has dried up despite all our best efforts. Mr Hamblett has been leading the project to try to reinstate the pond and arranged for St Peter’s scouts to come and help dig out some of the thick mud, allowing us to locate a pond liner in a small section of the original pond, in an attempt to save this important habitat. Our thanks go to the scouts for their hard work and also to Karen Bushell from Dunham Fisheries, who has been helping with our endeavours. If anyone is interested in becoming involved, please contact Mr Hamblett or Mrs Moss and hopefully we can preserve this important part of our  school for future generations.
  • Harvest festivals

    Thu 11 Oct 2018
Thank you to everyone for your generous gifts for our harvest festival celebrations. The spread on display at church is quite remarkable and I was moved by the attention and thought put into many offerings.  Our families are going to make a difference in the lives of those who are much less fortunate and it is wonderful to see. Thank you to those parents who helped with the display this morning and who took our offerings up to church.   Thank you also for your patience this morning if you were part of the enormous congregation at school. We will have a think about how to manage it next year. Mrs Hudson
  • Lacrosse Success

    Fri 05 Oct 2018

    Lacrosse Success!

The school lacrosse team played in their first lax tournament of the year on Tuesday and won all their matches convincingly. The team played very well throughout the tournament showing excellent skills and team spirit. They very deservedly won the tournament bringing home the trophy once again for the school. Well done!
The team were: Sam, Eric (captain & his birthday!),  Paula, Beth, Elsa, Grace, Lucas & Zak.
Miss Parle is very proud of them for all their hard work and for their fantastic attitude. We are also very proud of them for their conduct, since the tournament organisers also commended them for their politeness and team spirit.
