There's always something happening at Bowdon Church School

  • Year 6 Out & About!

    Thu 30 Jan 2020

Our Year 6 children have had a very busy week - last Friday they visited Stockport Air Raid Shelters and participated in an immersive WW2 themed day. Dressed as evacuees, they performed gas mask drills, did 1940s-style housework and learnt about the 1 mile of tunnels underneath Stockport Town Centre which housed some 4000 people during war-time air raids. As always, they were superb ambassadors for BCS and we were very proud of them. (please see the Year 6 page of the website for lots more photos!)

Then on Tuesday Year 6 participated in Crucial Crew, a multi-agency event which taught them life skills to keep themselves and others safe as they become more mature and independent.

  • Fundraising Updates

    Thu 09 Jan 2020
We are often humbled by the generosity of our families, helping us to raise money for a range of charities. In December for Ugandaid we raised £1004.87 from the Infant Nativities and £1,009.99 from the Junior Carol Service collection. This money will be used to fund the education of students, who are learning a trade in order to support their families and take them out of poverty. Our ‘Save the Children's Christmas Jumper Day’ raised £802.25 to help children around the world. Thank you to everyone who has supported these events.
  • Making our world a better place.

    Thu 09 Jan 2020

Before Christmas, 2N were looking at the effects that palm oil farming has on wildlife, in particular the Orangutans. Cameron Jones instigated a class mission to raise enough money to sponsor an Orangutan for a year and 2N were successful! They were busy doing jobs at home for money and instead of raising the £60 needed to sponsor, they raised £70! This also inspired India Castle in 2N to write to Nutella, who use palm oil in their food, and ask them to stop. She received a very nice letter back explaining that although palm oil is used in their food, it is farmed sustainably. This was a relief as I’m sure there are a few Nutella fans who wouldn’t want to give it up! It is so wonderful to see our children doing their bit to make the world a better place and they have certainly made us all at BCS proud, upholding our ‘Golden Value’ of kindness. Well done 2N
