  • OUTSTANDING IN ALL AREAS! - OFSTED MARCH 2020

    Wed 18 Mar 2020

Amidst the challenging situation that we are all in, I have some wonderful news. At last we are allowed to communicate the school's OFSTED judgement to you. The school was found outstanding in all areas and the report is attached. A school does not receive this judgement lightly and the inspection was rigorous and gruelling for those of us on the receiving end. The new framework from September 2019 is completely different from the previous one and prior to us only 8 mainstream primary schools in the country have gone through a full inspection and retained outstanding. As I explained to some of the children today, a school does not achieve an outstanding judgement because of one teacher or one child, it is everyone working together over time that creates such a fantastic place to learn.

Congratulations to the lacrosse team who have qualified for the National Pop Lacrosse championships!
  • British Science Week

    Sun 08 Mar 2020

Many thanks to parents Kerry and Athina, who came in to talk to Y1 and Y2 children about their work as scientists. They talked about working in a laboratory; discovering and testing medicines; the corona viruses and how we can protect ourselves and about DNA. The children then made their own DNA models out of sweets!

Y2 have been making lava lamps while Y3 had a fascinating talk from Dr Oates about how he uses robotics and lasers in surgery as well as the role of surgeons and anaesthetists in our hospitals. Y3 also had fun with ‘erupting volcanoes’! Y5 have been constructing 'minibeast homes' on the front field and will continue to monitor these over the next few weeks.

Y6 looked at some rather mouldy bread (yuk!) and discussed the implications for washing hands thoroughly and then completed a team engineering challenge to construct a marble run with everyday materials.

What a fantastic British Science week! Thank you to all the staff for supporting and running these activities and to the parents for their expertise and time.

  • Mr McCarthy’s News from Uganda!

    Sun 08 Mar 2020

I had an amazing time in Uganda, it was an eye-opening, emotional roller-coaster of an experience, but above all, humbling!  To be immersed in such positivity, despite the financial circumstances most we interacted found themselves in, was truly a heart-warming, uplifting experience.  I thoroughly enjoyed teaching lessons at 4 of our partner schools, particularly Walukuba East which we have a long established relationship with. I brought back reply letters for the Y5 classes and Y3L - admittedly of quite a different standard, but when the vast majority of the class cannot afford a pencil, it is not surprising!

I also met the students that BCS sponsor (and those personally sponsored by a number of staff) at Nile Vocational Institute, who asked me to personally pass on their heartfelt gratitude to all the children and parents - it is hard to put into words the difference it makes to their lives, and the positive ripple effect it has on their families and those close to them.  So thank you from them all.

I plan to show the children a photo journey of my time in Uganda during assemblies over the coming weeks, but in the meantime, here is a picture of the P4 class I taught letter writing to at Walukuba East one morning  (children ranging in age from 8-14 years, Year 3 equivalent). Notice how there are 99 children in a room designed and equipped for 35, and the distinct lack of resources, bar the books and pencils I provided for the lesson!

  • Lacrosse winners

    Wed 04 Mar 2020

Timperley Lacrosse club hosted their third Lax tournament of the year on Tuesday 3rd March.

Bowdon Church school played some fantastic lacrosse and displayed excellent sportsmanship and team spirit throughout. After winning all their matches BCS retained the trophy, having won all three ‘Lax’ tournaments this year to date. The standard of lacrosse this year has been very high at BCS and we are very proud to have achieved success with three different teams on each winning occasion!

Also, following previous success in the ‘Pop lacrosse’ tournament earlier this year,  the team have progressed to the next stage of the National Pop lacrosse championships and will compete in the Manchester Games this coming Friday. We wish them lots of luck!
