There's always something happening at Bowdon Church School

A sad farewell to Mrs Morrow and Mrs Clarke

We bid an emotional farewell to Mrs Morrow and Mrs Clarke tomorrow but we know they will keep in touch and be there for sage advice!

We wanted to share this amazing cake with all of you, designed and made by parent Kathryn Walsh. She has very kindly donated the cake and is just starting her own business - KBakes.  We know she’ll be very successful with this as an example of her skills.

We're sure you will all join with us to thank Mrs Morrow and Mrs Clarke for all they have done for the school over the last 20+ years, they will be hard to replace but we wish them well and hope they enjoy the peace and quiet in September!

We also say goodbye to Miss Grencis, who has a new post teaching Year 6 in Birmingham: we wish her lots of energy and enthusiasm for September!

    Year 6 - saying goodbye

Last night we held our annual Leavers’ evening in a very hot hall, celebrating the many and vast achievements of Year 6. Songs were sung, anecdotes shared and a few tears shed, but the children leave us confident and proud - which is just how it should be!

This morning the juniors walked to church for the Leavers’ service and Y6 children were presented with a Bible to enable them to continue to follow our Christian values.  Our thanks go to St Mary’s Bowdon and St Peter’s Hale for sponsoring the Bibles and their ongoing love and support for our school.

Lots of children have been visiting the pond this week and some were even lucky enough to find some newts! Mr Hamblett would have been pleased to see such excitement!
  • Fundraising in Memory of Mr Hamblett - The National Brain Appeal and the PTA

    Fri 19 Jul 2019

A group of Year 4 BCS Mums have successfully completed their Ultra Peak Challenges last Saturday. The two 25km walkers completed their challenge in just under 6 hours and the four 50km walkers finished in just over 13 hours. Some awful blisters were sustained, together with a twisted ankle, but it was all worthwhile since they have currently raised more than £4,000 for The National Brain Appeal and the PTA.

    Enterprise Challenge Business Fair

Our Enterprise Challenge Business Fair, which was the culmination of several weeks of innovating, designing, making and marketing by our Year 6 children was buzzing with energy and enthusiasm. Each year group had the chance to come and buy during the day and all the teams had sold out by 3:15pm.

A huge thank you to all Y6 for their enthusiasm, the parents for their patience and my brilliant ‘Year 6 team’ who have been helping to lead this project over the half term.

We can announce the final total of a fantastic £2,857.31! 25% of the money raised will go to the PTA and 75% goes to each team’s chosen charity. Thank you to all those who sent in money or came to buy.

    Staying Safe in Y6!

This week, Y6 were visited on Monday by the Fire Service and on Tuesday by Little Lifesavers. They now move up to secondary school more aware about how to stay safe when out and about, and what to do if a person is choking, not breathing or unconscious. Our thanks go to the volunteer parents who gave up their afternoon to help train the children in vital life saving first aid.

  • Violin Assembly

    Thu 18 Jul 2019

We are enjoying listening to instrumentalists playing for us in assemblies at the moment.  Well done everyone who has played so far. Last Friday Mrs Biddle led her fabulous violin group through some very impressive playing.  It is always lovely to see the different age groups playing together and achieving an excellent standard.

    Thu 18 Jul 2019

Y3 took part in the Intu ‘Big Bug Tour’ at The Trafford Centre.  They had to be creative and design their very own bug. From all the local schools the lucky winner was chosen from our school as well as two runner ups!  The winner had her design made up into a model and the runner-ups were given a ‘fun package’ and intu vouchers. Intu were blown away with their amazing designs!

The intrepid Year Five Scafell Pike team!

Members of Y5 climbed England’s highest peak Scafell in aid of JRDF – a great research charity aiming to cure type 1 diabetes.  Amelie and Albie, have type 1 diabetes and together with their friends they are determined not to let it stop them completing challenges like this.

Here is a photo of them all at the top, where they enjoyed eating jaffa cakes in memory of Mr Hamblett - one of his favourites. He certainly would have approved of their determination and fantastic group achievement - memories to treasure.

  • OUTSTANDING CHOIR PERFORMANCE

    Thu 04 Jul 2019

Our junior choirs should be very proud of themselves after an outstanding production  put together by Mrs. Sales and Mr. Cunliffe. Some amazing performances and wonderful talent throughout all the cast, leading characters, dancers, choirs and narrators! We are so very proud of every single member for their superb efforts! Thank you too to all staff involved in any way shape or form and to all the parents for their continued support.
