There's always something happening at Bowdon Church School

  • Past Pupils’ Sporting Successes

    Sat 28 Nov 2020

We were delighted to hear that past pupil & future netball star Maisie Chrimes has been selected for the Manchester Thunder future academy pathway programme. What an amazing achievement and huge inspiration for all our young budding netball players.

We were also delighted to hear that past pupils Noah Brennan & Sam Ginger have also been selected for the England Academy pathway for Lacrosse.

Again, what a fantastic achievement & inspiration for our current pupils. We wish them all lots of success and happiness in their sporting journeys.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to Children in Need last week. The children had a great time dressed as their sporting heroes, with several Darcey Bussells and Marcus Rashfords. As a school community we raised a fantastic  £1,043.93!

    Trussell Trust and MIND

Our own clothes day on our wellbeing day, just before half term, raised £652.44 which was split between the Trussell Trust  and MIND. Your generosity will make a difference to people’s lives - Thank you.
  • Remembrance Day

    Thu 12 Nov 2020

We were keen that this important day was not overlooked in school. Everyone in school observed a one minute silence, as well as watching a Remembrance assembly prepared by Mrs Hudson. Our thanks go to Mrs Murray for this Remembrance display in the front lobby area of school, using one of our ‘Poppy boards’ created a few years ago by Mr Hamblett and Mrs Pope.

Year 2 walked up to St Mary’s church to place some ‘poppy stones’ around Bowdon. Poppy stones were also placed below Captain Edward Bradbury’s memorial stone on Langham Road to help people to remember.  He was a WW1 army officer who received a posthumous Victoria Cross from King George V for bravery. This is on display at the Imperial War Museum, London and he was born at Church Bank in Bowdon.

  • Uganda Updates

    Thu 05 Nov 2020

Walukuba East: Schools have just reopened in Uganda for children in exam years.  We received an email from the Headteacher at Walukuba East saying they are checking children’s temperature on arrival at school every day, they are all wearing masks and following the government’s guidelines carefully. They hope that exams will take place in March 2021 and that they can welcome back other year groups to school shortly.

Nile Vocational Institute has also reopened for students doing their final exams in December. Social distancing is also in place, including turning the main hall into a dormitory!

On a very sad note, one of the female students , not a UgandAid one, has died, probably after having typhoid and internal bleeding.  It shows how fragile life is, and how lucky we are to have vaccinations.

Ugandaid is still trying to raise more money for the Domestic Technology Building, which is in a really poor condition.  Can you help? Perhaps the amount saved by not going out for dinner during lockdown, a missed trip to the cinema, a missed haircut or cost of travelling to work if Covid-19 has brought your workplace into your home? If 1000 people donate £10, phase 1 of the build can commence.  Please click this link to Tender a Tenner of support.

    Evelyn’s update:

We also had communication from Evelyn, the lady BCS raised money for to help her build her own house.  Finally, after much confusion and delay over land rights etc., they have started clearing the land to build the house for Evelyn and her children.  We will update you as the build progresses.
