There's always something happening at Bowdon Church School

  • Birds of Prey

    Thu 22 Jul 2021

As a treat at the end of term, we organised a visit from Gauntlet Birds of Prey, They gave two entertaining and informative outdoor demonstrations for the children. The children were thrilled to see the range of birds and hopefully will be inspired to help with their protection in the future. They should now come home saying they love vultures! Thank you to Mrs Norbury for organising this event.

  • ‘So long, farewell…’

    Thu 22 Jul 2021

It was hot, it was emotional but above all else, it was joyous! Together we celebrated the enormous contribution Mrs Brierley has made to the school for 30 years, as a class teacher and as a Deputy Headteacher. The whole school sat in spaced class groups around the field for a final assembly and picnic. Mrs Brierley went to each year group in turn to be serenaded by a song from The Sound of Music, or from Mama Mia. The teachers had all specially adapted the words for the occasion. Mr and Mrs Brierley were amazed by all the costumes and of course the singing, which was such a great surprise! Mrs Pope also compiled a beautiful keepsake book, containing personal pictures and messages from all the children in school. We’re going to really miss her in September, but she is leaving us with a ‘guardian angel’ to watch over us all as a lasting legacy.

  • Robinwood (non) Residential!

    Wed 14 Jul 2021

Our Year 6s could not stay at Robinwood this year but they did not let this dampen their optimism, as they participated in 2 very full days of activities, including: canoeing, climbing, nightline, giant swing, archery, high ropes challenge and building a crate tower!

A huge thank you to parents and staff who made this possible, and of course to the children for their enthusiasm and teamwork. We are amazed that everyone made it to the 7:30 am coach departure on Monday morning!

  • Quidditch comes to BCS!

    Thu 08 Jul 2021

This week we welcomed Enrich Education into school to teach everyone (including staff) how to play Quidditch (brooms excluded) and despite the frequent downpours, it was a huge success!
All children had a great time and we are pleased to announce that we can offer Quidditch as an after school club from September.

  • Reception Day of Sport and Games

    Thu 01 Jul 2021

On Wednesday 30th June, Reception spent a fabulous day full of sports and games and spent the whole day outdoors.  We hope they were totally exhausted by the time they went home!  They took part in activities on every area of our school grounds and ended the day with a well deserved ice lolly.

The day began with free play on bikes, trikes and scooters and playing with bats, balls, hoops, ropes and bean bags; next came the races - running, bat and ball relay and a cone balanced on their head; after lunch the children played an orienteering game in groups which involves finding an animal picture and then reading the clue to find the following animal.  These picture cards are hidden all over the school grounds and the children loved locating them.

Children who were not involved in orienteering created large pictures on the field using hoops, bean bags, ropes and balls.  We couldn’t have wished for a better day for them!
