  • Past Pupil - Cambridge Women’s Rowing Team President

    Thu 07 Apr 2022

Bronya is currently in her 3rd Year at Gonville & Caius College, studying Natural Science. It is an outstanding achievement to be selected for the highly competitive place in the final crew, for the third time and also to be elected President. Bronya learnt to row at Trafford Rowing Club and started when she was in Year 6 at BCS; we talked about the possibility of her taking part in this traditional sporting event even then! Many staff at school remember her excellent work ethic and involvement in school life.  Her hard work and determination has paid off and we hope you will all join, once again, to congratulate her and the Cambridge crew on their record breaking time. Bronya is very grateful for all the support she has received and has previously said BCS instilled in her both the belief that she could do anything, and the determination to keep trying.

  • Lacrosse - Greater Manchester Pop Lacrosse Finals

    Mon 04 Apr 2022

On Thursday 24th March, Bowdon Church School were one of three schools representing Trafford in the Greater Manchester schools Games. The best teams from all over Greater Manchester were competing to qualify for the National Pop Lacrosse Finals.

In their first match the team were finding their feet beating Queens Gate 6-2. By their second match they were gaining more confidence winning 9-1 against St Gabriel’s. Their third match against Bolton GS was a very strong performance by all winning 10-1. The final game of the group stage they secured another victory over Gaskell Community winning 6-1. There were some exceptional performances from all the team but co captains Sammy & Arlo really led by example.

After dominating the group stages and coming top of the table they progressed to the Championship stage. The quarter finals was a knockout round where we faced Greenmount, where we gained a strong 10-1 win.

We then faced local rivals Hale Prep in a tense but exciting semi final. There was a lot of stop and start, which affected the momentum of the game a little, but the Bowdon Church team were determined to give everything they had to secure their place in the final. We were up against a very well drilled team, but BCS managed to maintain their unbeaten record beating Hale prep 4-3.

For the Final, we were up against another local team Bowdon Prep, the match was again another adrenaline fuelled encounter. However, BCS  managed to maintain their outstanding standard of lacrosse and positive attitude, which had served them so well throughout the competition, gaining a well deserved 4-2 victory. The team were a real credit to the school demonstrating not only a high standard of lacrosse but also exemplary behaviour, sportsmanship and fabulous attitude throughout the competition. The team has now qualified for the National finals.
