  • Education Without Boundaries

    Thu 02 Mar 2023

Last Friday 30 children from Y5 were selected by their teachers to experience an inspirational day out at Emirates Old Trafford through the Education Without Boundaries Programme. The children started their day in the Club Press Gallery with a full view of Emirates Old Trafford Ground.

They then had the chance to participate in a variety of fun Literacy Cricket Challenges, followed by some practical cricket skills and games in the Indoor Cricket Centre and finally some exciting and competitive Numeracy Cricket Challenges. Here’s what they had to say about it…

A day at the All England Lancashire Cricket Club by Yu Hao & Harry

As Year 5, we were honoured when we were invited to attend a full day at the famous cricket club that has been home to the Lancashire Cricket team since 1834.

Our day consisted of a tour around the second floor of the most modern building, showing us the reporter’s room, which were used to finalised their penmanship on the matches before sending them off to the newspaper printers. It also gave us a magnificent view of the famous cricket ground itself and the enormous amount of spectator seating enveloping it

We were led into the area where the cricketers themselves relax both before and after the game. Pictures of teams gone by and many trophies adorned the walls. It felt like we were revisiting the historic events of the club especially when we saw the Red Rose of Lancashire everywhere.

The training room was full of modern equipment with an exceptional machine that bowled cricket balls up to 100 mph! Whereupon we played a match between ourselves against the nets for safety. It was amazing to watch the professional’s practising alongside us.

It was a wonderful day which we enjoyed immensely. We would like to thank all those people involved in arranging this unforgettable trip for us all.  Year 5

The children thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of their day and were fantastic ambassadors for the school. Thank you to Ms Parle and Miss Bulcock for escorting the children and thank you to Mr Seddon for offering this fantastic opportunity.

  • Y2 Remembrance Pebbles

    Thu 24 Nov 2022

On Remembrance Day, Year 2 walked up to St Mary’s church and as a mark of respect they laid pebbles, that they had painted poppies on, at the bottom of the cenotaph. They stood there for a minute’s silence and had a look at some of the War graves in the Graveyard.

  • Harvest Celebrations

    Thu 06 Oct 2022

Yesterday, despite the awful rain, our KS2 children all walked up to church and sang beautifully in our Harvest Festival service.

Children from all year groups read confidently from the Bible or poems and prayers they had written themselves, and it was a lovely reminder of the importance of being thankful and generous.

This morning our KS1 children celebrated Harvest in school, led by Mrs Norbury and Reverend Aled. Our Reception children were very proud to show off their amazing Harvest artwork!

Thank you so much for your incredible generosity in sending Harvest gifts into school with your children. It is very much appreciated.

  • Welcome to all new BCS members, including our new Headteacher!

    Thu 08 Sep 2022

    Hello from Mrs Halliwell!

I have had a lovely first week at Bowdon, thank you so much for the smiles, conversations and welcomes from the whole community; I feel very privileged and fortunate to be here. I have enjoyed meeting the children and staff and look forward to getting to know as many families as I can across the term.

As another school year begins (469 years since the founding of our school in 1553), we would like to extend a warm welcome to all new children, families and staff who are now part of our Bowdon family. New members bring new ideas, different perspectives and opportunities to make new friends.

One new member of our school, who will definitely be here in 2053 to celebrate our 500 year anniversary, arrived in school with a new coat and was welcomed by the children in our start of the year assembly - Q2
